A JOURNEY OF THE LEAP OF FAITH
TRIBUTE TO PFUTSERO GOVERNMENT COLLEGE
Alumnus (2013-2018)
“I know you can do something” complimented one of the college teachers as I waited for my result, which
encouraged and boosted me. Pfutsero Government College played a crucial role in
strengthening my faith in God and instilling hope and positivity in me. The
supportive atmosphere, along with the influence of God-fearing friends and
caring teachers, has significantly impacted my life. Recognized for its
dedication to nurturing students not only academically but also spiritually and
morally, the college fosters social harmony—of which I am an example.
In
May 2013, I embarked on my college journey as part of the last Class 11 batch.
This marked the beginning of a demanding struggle—a shy introvert without
friends or certainty about what lay ahead. The vast classrooms felt
intimidating; classmates seemed exceptionally bright; teachings appeared too
advanced to grasp—I often found myself lost in a daze. My two years at the higher
secondary level passed by like a blur without forming many friendships or
getting acquainted with numerous teachers. While those few genuine friendships
brought some comfort, feelings of inadequacy still plagued me relentlessly.
With
a revived sense of trust in the teachers I knew from my time in higher
secondary studies, I went on board on my bachelor's degree journey at college. Choosing an honors paper was not as difficult as
having confident in what lay ahead. However, it was reassuring to meet with an
understanding college principal and vice principal which
served a huge lift to my confidence and hope in further studies.
As
important as studies were, building friendships with fellow students who shared
a strong faith was instrumental in shaping both my academic and spiritual path.
Attending an EU fellowship for the first time marked a new beginning for me at
the college, as did encountering other students involved in EU activities. The
teachers I encountered were not only dedicated to teaching the syllabus but
also emphasized ethics of learning and practical application, which proved
valuable beyond graduation. Their efforts extended outside the classroom
environment towards nurturing holistic development – something particularly
impactful for someone like me who needed that special attention.
The classroom environment was filled with friendly and
committed teachers who taught not only the syllabus but also the ethics of
learning and practical application of the studied syllabus which serve as an
important factor post-graduation. There were times when teachers took us to the
canteen for special treats or picnics on a holiday, which made us more
enthusiastic about our studies and helped us to think beyond academics. Although it is
undeniable that not all teachers are the same, the overall effectiveness of the
classroom was nurturing and promising.
The
positive impact made by these efforts went beyond just academics - they
transformed shy individuals like me into confident public speakers that others
could trust. It’s undeniable that what happened inside classrooms mattered
significantly; however, it cannot be overstated how influential those extra
steps taken by our teachers were – some even extending their mentorship beyond
our time in college. Some of such mentors can be credited to the people outside
the college environment.
I'm
significant proof of how student movements like UESI play a vital role in
shaping character and personality within colleges; its presence has left a
tangible mark on many lives including mine with the support and contribution
from both teachers and administrative staff −
fostering involvement academically as well as spiritually amongst students.
Equally
important is recognizing the pivotal role played by the students’ council in the
college often bridge any gaps between authorities' understanding
students' concerns when required; crucially helping avoid unnecessary
embarrassment or misunderstandings which I had experienced.
The college offered me a place of confidence, growth,
and opportunities ensuring hope in various ways. I have always wondered
what would happen if I had to choose another college, yet God has in store the
best for me. My upbringing in the college is praiseworthy and continued
involvement in the college activities brings joy and satisfaction ever since.
Moreover, the ongoing encouragement from beloved educators instilled commitment along this life’s journey
ahead.
May the college be better! Meliora!!
